Strengthening India’s Goatery Sector: A Roadmap for 2025-2027

At the closing panel of the hashtag#HerdingHope: National Goat Summit 2025, Mr. Suryamani Roul, Managing Trustee, Forum of Enterprises for Equitable Development (FEED), presented the Final Takeaways & Action Plan (2025–2027) – charting a transformative path for India’s goatery sector.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻:

𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀
– Promote producer-driven models like mobile slaughterhouses
– Ensure convergence of government schemes like NLM with financing and infrastructure
– Integrate Pashu Sakhis as recognized frontline service providers

𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗣𝗢 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀
– Shift from input-supply FPOs to market-facing, value chain-driven enterprises
– Enable bulk order fulfillment (50k+ animals) for tapping national and global demand
– Build capacities on traceability, price discovery, and aggregation

𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀
– Use AI-powered pricing tools and traceability systems
– Reduce middlemen exploitation and connect farmers directly with markets
– Empower SHGs and JLGs as local digital anchors

𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰-𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 (𝗣𝗣𝗣𝘀)
– Develop regional training hubs and decentralized processing infrastructure
– Encourage private sector to invest in farm-level slaughter units
– Build sustainable, self-contained goatery clusters

The roadmap brings together policy, technology, finance, and community leadership—putting smallholder farmers at the center of India’s meat value chain transformation.
